About Positive Images of Self-Expression

Impact Performing Arts Conservatory is a proud extension of Positive Images of Self-Expression, a nonprofit organization founded in 1998 by Rev. Sheryl “Imani” Harris. Established with a mission to empower youth through the creative arts, Positive Images of Self-Expression has been a driving force behind programs that nurture self-worth, encourage personal growth, and build community through performance, mentorship, and education.

As the official 501(c)(3) organization supporting all of Impact’s programming, Positive Images of Self-Expression helps fund scholarships, supply initiatives, leadership development, and international outreach projects. This means that when you give, register, or receive communications from us, you’ll see the full name Positive Images of Self-Expression on donation receipts and formal documents.

Every partnership and contribution goes directly toward furthering our shared goal: inspiring the next generation to express themselves boldly, confidently, and creatively.

Rev Sheryl "Imani" Harris

Rev. Sheryl “Imani” Harris is a visionary arts educator, mentor, and minister who brings passion, purpose, and creativity to everything she does. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Imani discovered her love for dance in sixth grade and never looked back—eventually training under the late Paul Kennedy and at the renowned Alvin Ailey Dance Theater in New York.

Imani has spent more than two decades working with youth through the performing arts, creating safe, expressive spaces for young people to grow in confidence, character, and creativity. She’s choreographed for gospel icons, written and directed original stage productions, and helped launch hundreds of young artists into new levels of self-expression.

She founded Impact Performing Arts Conservatory to continue that work on a broader scale—building a community where artistic excellence meets personal development. In 2023, her vision expanded globally with the launch of Impact Kenya Kibera, a program rooted in the belief that creativity and care can change lives. There, youth are mentored in leadership, supported in education, and encouraged to dream bigger.

Imani currently serves as the Youth Minister and Creative Director at Second Baptist Church of Santa Ana. She holds a degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University and was ordained by Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer of Faithful Central Bible Church.

Whether in the classroom, on the stage, or in the heart of a community, Imani leads with joy, faith, and the deep belief that the arts can open doors—both to the world and to the soul.

“Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion.” -Martha Graham
